Vision Statement

It has been a privilege to serve as a Member of Provincial Parliament in York Region since 1995. Through my responsibilities as both an MPP and Cabinet Minister I have had the opportunity to develop and implement many important initiatives. Working collaboratively with our municipal and federal governments has ensured that the needs of our community continue to be met.

I believe, that as your MPP, it is my responsibility to advocate for the most critical priorities in our community. Acting on the needs of my constituents, those priorities have been healthcare, education, transportation and our environment. I am proud of my record in advocating for legislation to protect the Oak Ridges Moraine, the establishment of a world-class Cardiac Care Centre at Newmarket's South Lake Regional Health Centre, and provincial funding and policy support for York Region's Viva Transit expansion, which have established a strong foundation for what I believe is our shared vision for a safe and prosperous community.

The communities of Newmarket and Aurora are at the centre of one of the fastest growing regions in the country. With that growth comes the challenge of dealing with ever-increasing demands of public services, including health care, education, transportation and environmental protection. As MPP, I will continue my record as a strong advocate to ensure these initiatives are a priority for government.

I am committed to working with our community and business leaders to make Newmarket and Aurora world-class centres. I will ensure provincial support for the development and funding of a bold transportation and transit plan that will free us of the oppressive problems of gridlock. A cornerstone of that plan must be all-day train service to our communities, supported by major improvements to the existing road and transit systems.

These initiatives can, and must all be achieved in the framework of a community that is an example to the world of how economic development can be achieved without compromising the highest quality of life standards while protecting the environment and natural heritage with which we have been entrusted.

I welcome and invite the residents of Newmarket and Aurora to contact me at any time. By working together, we can ensure that our community is the best place in the world to live, to work and to raise a family.
