The Riding

The New Riding

The new riding of Newmarket-Aurora encompasses all of both towns and is bound by:

Highway 404 to the east, Bathurst Street to the west, Bloomington to the south and the Newmarket town border to the north (just south of Green Lane). If you are unsure that your address falls within our riding, please contact us and we will verify which riding you are a part of.

The changes will take place effective October 10, 2007. Until then, you will be in your current riding (for Newmarket residents, York North, and for Aurora residents, Vaughan-King-Aurora).

The Federal Government made these same changes during the 2004 election. After the 2007 Provincial election, the riding boundaries for Newmarket-Aurora will be identical for both the Federal and Provincial governments.

Riding History

In 1995, Frank Klees defeated Liberal incumbent Charles Beer to become the MPP for the new riding ofYork Mackenzie, which encompassed Aurora, Newmarket and King Township. By the next Provincial election in 1999, the riding had again been modified. The new riding separated Newmarket and Aurora—placing each city into the riding of another Conservative MPP: Julia Munro for York North, and Al Palladini for Vaughan King Aurora. Given this, Frank Klees agreed to take on the responsibility of running in the newly formed riding of Oak Ridges, where he has remained as MPP, since 1999. Now, with the return of Newmarket and Aurora to one riding, Klees will return to his home riding where he will seek a fourth term as MPP.
